The Paul et Suzanne French-language learning tool addresses all of the child’s developmental needs.
This kit was created in Manitoba and used in the province in a three-year pilot project for French-language development.
Paul et Suzanne : Un modèle de francisation is approved by the Departments of Education in most Canadian provinces as curriculum support material appropriate to the needs of early learners in French-language schools and in French-immersion classes.
The model's description
This document outlines the aims and objectives of the model. It deals with the issues of language and thought development in children, curriculum planning and learning through play.
20 Big Story Books
Each book contains ten different stories featuring the Paul and Suzanne characters.
A Teacher’s Handbook
This guide provides practical information for teachers and suggests a number of activities to help children assimilate the vocabulary and other language concepts found in the stories.
200 Pictorial Summaries
Each of the stories found in the storybooks is presented in comic strip form, on an 8 ½˝ by 14˝ sheet. These sheets can be photocopied and given to the children to bring home. They provide an opportunity for reviewing the story at home and allow the whole family to take part in the child’s language learning.
A compact disc (CD) with 20 Songs
Each of the 20 storybook themes is accompanied by a song. The words to the songs are taken from the stories and sung to traditional French folk tunes.
The two hand puppets represent the Paul and Suzanne characters.
As vocabulary reappears from book to book, words and language patterns are reinforced and help the child develop a good vocabulary base. The themes offer a variety of contexts that bring the language to life for young learners.
